Welcome to The Vancouver Island Model Engineers Home Page. Our club Is dedicated to the Hobby of engineering in Minature. The members have many interests in small scale engineering however our main interest is on models that run on rails.

For those of you who are not familiar with this hobby this railway equipment is quite large with some of the engines in the 1500 lb range. The equipment is large enough to ride on and pull several railway cars loaded with people. In fact it is not unusual to find loaded trains in excess of several tons. There are many clubs world wide and you will find a club near just about every large population center in North America, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe and Japan.

It is quite a fantastic hobby that doesn't require huge amounts of cash to belong. Most clubs (ours included) have club engines and equipment for the members who have no place to construct models or for some reason do not have their own equipment. If you want to have your own equipment but do not want to put out a large sum of money then there are several small gas and electric engines available as kits or ready to run and used engines are available from time to time.

You don't have room for a track at your place?? That is what clubs are for. We have two tracks on our site, a raised triple gauge (3 1/2, 4 3/4 and 5) track of approximately 900 feet and a 7 1/2 gauge ground level track of just under a two miles with part of that dual gauge for 5" equipment. For you visiting engineers and friends be advised that we have plenty of steaming bay space and some of the easyest drive through loading/unloading facilities there are. Motels and camping are close by and the site is locked at night. Please bring your engines from far and wide to help polish the rails. No visiting engineers have ever left our site without feeling part of the family.
