New
Church Windows
The celebration of the 100th anniversary of St. Andrew's Church will take place in 2010. Already, we are preparing for this event by renovating. the church building. Included will be repair and/or replacement of 9 diamond pane windows.· These are leaded glass
which usually have a life of 75 to 100 years and are now becoming a safety issue.
We have contacted Mercer & Schaefer, a firm of stained glass designers who have presented a plan to combine some elements of the present windows with newly designed additional windows.
There are a number of 'Memorial' opportunities before us.
1. Commission a window to be designed in stained glass. The cost would be determined by the size and the complexity of the design.
2. Donate a symbol to decorate the smaller upper windows (approx. $500). There are many appropriate symbols to choose from.
3. Make a donation to the Memorial Fund specifying 'Church Windows:
We expect the work to be completed by spring of 2010. Please contact Rev. Rick Root, Jan Bergink (656-0877) or Stephen Hives (6564586) for
further information.
Updating our Church History
As our 100th anniversary approaches, updating our photo albums and history books with pictures of parish life becomes somewhat of a priority. Do you have any photos? Photographs of home groups, Sunday School, Rainbow Club, Neighbours Lunch, Outdoor Services, Camp Columbia, etc. would be much appreciated. Please pass them on to Norah Cook (656-2415)
Book Room
Thank you for the wonderful donations and support we receive. We are sorry that we cannot handle large hard-cover books as we do not have the room. All suitable religious books are put in the Narthex and people may borrow them. We do need help on Saturday mornings 9:30 AM to 11 :00. Anyone interested, contact Jean Scott.

GOING
GREEN
Over the past few years St. Andrew's has been
gradually attempting to go "Green".
Completed Projects
-
upgraded furnace in the church from an inefficient oil burning furnace to a
high efficient gas furnace
-
upgraded the sanctuary lighting to efficient light fixtures which
produces more light with less energy consumption
-
installed a high efficient gas hot water heater on the commercial
dishwasher in kitchen.
-
insulated the walls and ceiling in the vestry
-
initiated the recycling of paper, plastics, glass, etc.
Projects in Progress
-
upgrading lighting in naive of church to efficient light fixtures which
will produce more light with less energy consumption
-
culling out unused and unwanted items that are currently in storage to
ensure that we do not have to build additional storage capacity.
-
replacing expensive beeswax altar candles with efficient oil burning
candles
Future projects
-
replace or repair original diamond-glass windows in the church which
are 98 years old, including the opening mechanisms (currently very
inefficient)
-
insulate the walls and ceiling of church
interior
All the above projects are environmentally friendly and will reduce our cost of
operation annually. |
