Introduction to BronzeSite Studio

Casting bronze is an immediate experience which has to be seen to be appreciated and tried to be understood.

The articles in BronzeSite's Studio, often with images, are of a foundry I built in 1988 for the purpose of casting portrait medals and solid bronze maquettes for larger works in resin. Most of the tools I use, the furnace and special materials are the result of extensive research into lost wax casting. For a number of reasons, I chose to focus on plaster investment moulding techniques.

I hope the information published here will be of interest to metal workers, sculptors, art collectors and museums which are interested in bronze casting but please remember, I am not an instructor; I attempt to be as clear as possible but some of my methods may not work for others just as some of the ideas I tried from others did not work for me. One thing is for sure, talking to someone can often save a lot of time so don't hesitate to email, I am always happy to answer questions as best I can.
