Sculpture on glacier. The Hermit Trail, in Glacier National Park, rises sharply through old growth rain forest, alpine meadows and sharp boulders, the remains of previous avalanches, to culminate at the edge of Rogers Glacier; a final height of 2,172 M. (7,125 feet) above sea level .
Two hundred metres east of the trail and 180 M. below the site, sits an alpine hut, built for mountain climbers in the 1940’s. Today, spaces can be reserved for overnight shelter* to be used as a base camp for explorations of the surrounding peaks.
A brief window in unpredictable weather provided perfect conditions for photography. Intermittent clouds diffused sparkling sunlight to provide excellent shadow detail.
Photographing the sculpture took about 30 minutes by which time it was essential to begin the trek back.
Coming down, with a load, was laborious and extremely hard on the knee joints from hyper extension of the leg muscles.
In all, the project took from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

GPS readings were taken on the site and proved to be in accordance with the UTM map for the area, (82 N/5). The altimeter was about 30 meters out - not bad for about 2200 meters overall.
