Owl

Solid bronze rough textured owl head.

Owl, 1988/1998

Solid bronze rough casting with green on black patina, mounted on American Black Walnut base.
5.75 x 2.5" deep (141 x 63 mm.) not including base. n.s. n.d.

Owl was cast using an investment formula from the Upper Volta*. As a safety measure, the clay/manure investment was packed in foundry sand inside a metal flask. The original model was made of styrofoam, in place of wax, which was burned out with molten metal during the pour. The incredible texture achieved was in part due to a copious quantity of gas formed during the pour.

Artist's collection.
