Abalorios del Rocio, cedar and resin

Abalorios del Rocío, 1997-1998
Laminated, cedar under partial fibre glass shell with lacquer metallic finish.
(Work no longer exists as shown.)
25" (635 mm.), u.s. u.d.
Non-existent.

The gallery size sculpture was constructed from more than 1,200 laminated cubes, carved and partially encased in a polyester resin shell. Two open areas in the shell reveal the cedar core. Following exhibition in Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild 1998 semi annual exhibition and later, in the main foyer of the Fran Willis Gallery, (with resin cut-away showing construction method), the fibre glass shell was completed and the work was resurfaced with a bright yellow "Tuf-flex" marine finish. Following the Durrance Lake project, a marine inspection hatch was fitted.

How sculpture was made.
