National Defence Civilian Education Support Program

(Formerly the Departmental Scholarship Program)

I have attached the following message from Shirley Siegel ADM (HR Civ) for your information. As a member of the Selection Committee, I encourage any of you who may be interested to apply. Last year we had two successful applicants from the Council membership.

“We are launching the eighth promotional campaign for the National Defence Civilian Education Support Program (NDCESP), formerly, the Departmental Scholarship Program. To date, the program has awarded 105 scholarships and has made it possible for civilian employees to improve their qualifications, which in turn has helped prepare them and their organizations to meet both current DND needs and future challenges.

The NDCESP provides DND indeterminate civilian employees with financial support to obtain a degree, diploma, certificate or an attestation through full-time studies at a recognized Canadian educational institution for a maximum of twelve consecutive months. The program also offers an additional incentive for managers since it provides the annual salary for the recipient’s replacement.

The NDCESP is a true example of our commitment to continuous learning and represents a tremendous opportunity for our workforce. The program is designed to provide continuous learning funds for at least one employee in each of the five employment categories:  Administrative Support, Scientific and Professional, Administrative and Foreign Service, Technical, and Operational. Financial support for one additional employee may be provided annually to an individual in each of the following employment equity groups:  Aboriginal peoples, Persons with Disabilities, and Visible Minorities. All candidates must meet the established eligibility criteria. We publish the names of recipients according to the employment category to which they applied.

For more detailed information, please visit the web site at http://hr.ottawa-hull.mil.ca/NDCESP-PAECDN/. Employees are also invited to consult this site and seek guidance from either their Learning Advisor or the HR Officer from their Civilian HR Service Centre, concerning eligibility and the application process.

Completed application forms must be sent by mail or fax no later than March 1st, 2006 to:
