The Keeper Menstrual Cup...

is an amazing product that could change your life!  With The Keeper, you may never need bulky pads or tampons again.    The Keeper is a natural gum rubber cup that is worn internally, holding (instead of absorbing) monthly flow. (Women with concerns about latex sensitivities should check out the DivaCup).  The Keeper can hold up to one ounce of menstrual flow. (An average woman's entire monthly flow is about 2 to 4 ounces.) The Keeper Menstrual Cup is simple to use. Just empty the cup as needed (usually every 6 to 12 hours), rinse, and reinsert. (There is no need to boil or soak it.)

For your Body

Tampons are typically manufactured from rayon fibers. The bacteria called staphylococcus aureus, responsible for toxic shock syndrome, breeds easily on synthetic fibers such as rayon and viscose found in all commercial tampons. The Keeper Menstrual Cup has not been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome and is accepted for sale by the FDA (U.S.).

As well, commercial tampons may expose you to chlorine, and other bleaching agents. Chlorine can cause the production of dioxins, furans and organochlorines. Health risks from exposure to organochlorines include: immune system inhibition, birth defects and the production of cancers. Studies also suggest linkage to endometriosis, breast cancer and other female reproductive disorders. Toxic Shock Syndrome continues to cause serious illness, sometimes fatal, with symptoms including high fever, sunburn-like rash, nausea, diarrhea, headache, sore throat, and achy muscles. 99% of all Toxic Shock Syndrome cases are found in women wearing rayon-blend tampons. Using the Keeper eliminates your exposure to these toxic chemicals.

Further, as the Keeper does not absorb fluids it does not disrupt your natural vaginal acidity or moisture levels.

For your Planet

The Keeper is made with natural gum rubber - similar to that used in baby bottle nipples. The rubber comes from trees tapped for their rubber, rather then being chopped down. (Note: if you have allergic reactions to latex or rubber we suggest you do not use the Keeper.)

As well, the Keeper is reusable.  By using a reusable product you greatly reduce pollution caused by disposable pads and tampons and their associated packaging, shipping, etc.   The production of disposable products such as tampons and disposable pads requires the use of numerous chemicals and inevitably some of these chemicals end up being released into our environment.  In addition the garbage created by disposable products (used tampons, pads and packaging) contributes to the ever growing landfill problem - we are simply running out of room to put our garbage.  And the plastic applicators used with some tampons continually show up on beaches, or get ingested by wildlife.

The Keeper was even the menstrual collection product of choice for the women scientists of the Biosphere 2 because of it environmental value!

Economical

The Keeper is reusable, so by using it you can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars you would otherwise spend on disposable products. Also remember that we offer a 3 month satisfaction guarantee with the Keeper.

Easy to Use

To insert The Keeper, you first fold it in half, and then again lengthwise between your fingers, and insert it fully inside the vagina.  While inserting, begin to rotate the Keeper, and once in place continue to rotate at least a full turn to ensure that it has unfolded. Pull gently on it - this helps the Keeper form a seal to ensure no leakage of fluids.  (Some women use a bit of lubrication to ease inserting - check out our chemical free personal lubricants). Once inserted you will feel how much you need to trim the Keeper's stem. If it is poking into you, it needs more trimming. It's so comfortable - you need to make sure not to forget you're wearing it!  To remove it you simply pinch the bottom of the cup to release the seal; bear down slightly with your abdominal muscles to help move it downward and remove the Keeper slowly.   Your menstrual fluids remains in the cup.   Empty the fluid into the toilet, rinse The Keeper well or wipe, and reinsert it.  Between cycles, you should rinse The Keeper with warm water and soap or a mild vinegar solution. (There is no need to boil or soak it.)

Overseas Customers

We do ship a lot of Keepers overseas on a regular basis.  To order use US dollar prices and provide credit card information either by on-line ordering, email or phone/fax.  You can also send a postal or bank money order for the amount in US dollars via regular mail - see my mailing address on the Mail order page (I am not able to take checks from overseas due to the very high costs of cashing them).  Shipping costs to send the Keeper overseas are the same as for North America customers and we do not charge any other extra fees to serve overseas customers.

AND yes overseas orders can get the mini pad for just $4 too!
